Educational Practices, Learning and Teacher Training Project in Different Contexts and Languages

Coordinator: Professor Heloísa Helena Pimenta Rocha

Area of Knowledge: Education

  • Project Description:

This research project focuses on the question of teacher training, educational practices and learning processes, trying to keep in mind the different contexts in which education proposals are formulated and implemented, both at school and in other education spaces. At the same time, it attempts to pay attention to the various languages used to express, represent, legitimize/delegitimate and, finally, produce meaning about the different educational projects and their results, disputes over certain positions, the place given to subjects and the role attributed to education in the formation of new generations.

In order to deeply analyze the various dimensions in which this investigation unfolds, the focus was on the problematization of contemporary educational processes, examined in their historicity, in order to put into play the possibilities of resistance and other flows that, enhancing critical proposals and committed to inclusive and democratic practices, allow for progress towards respect for the rights of citizenship/humanity and the differences between the individuals involved.  In this way, the project will unfold around three axes: i- teacher education policies and practices; ii- school and non-school educational practices; iii- learning processes. Project development envisages collaboration with research teams based in three countries: Mexico, France, and Portugal. Through this academic cooperation, there is an attempt to contemplate the mobility of PhD students and professors, as well as joint publications of research results, in the form of books, book chapters and articles in journals with a selective editorial policy. The project also aims to strengthen existing partnerships, expand and consolidate relations between Unicamp and recognized foreign institutions in the field of education, with the purpose of finding answers to contemporary challenges and thus contributing to the construction of innovative proposals for education, as well as the challenge of internationalization of Brazilian graduate studies.

Public Education Policies, State and Society Project: reverberations in human formation

Coordinators: Professor Nora Krawczyk and Professor Selma Venco

Area of Knowledge: Education

  • Project Description:

This project is related to the concerns of a set of researchers from the Unicamp Faculty of Education dedicated to the study of the relations between Public Policy, Education, State and Society, in permanent dialogue with different sectors of society: scientific community, teachers of basic and university education, social movements and public authorities. Brazilian public education has experienced an intense expansion in the last 30 years, towards the universalization of basic education and, fortunately, this meant the entry into the public school of new social groups, new demands and new challenges that require short and long term educational policy answers. At the same time, the international and regional changes that have taken place in recent decades call on researchers to reflect on the national reality, from a regional and international perspective.

The project aims to contribute to the study of contemporary educational policies, examining its proposals, actions and results, understanding local specificities and producing collective works. For this, we intend to list and analyze policies and programs in different social and cultural contexts that focus on the realization of an education for human formation, analyzing work relations of education professionals in different countries. Analyzing the mechanisms of educational regulation, the characteristics of the management of educational systems and school institutions and identifying the different players/interlocutors of the public power: businesspeople, international organizations, social movements and others.

At this moment, the dialogue with Portugal, Germany and Spain will be prioritized, as well as with reference research centers and institutions of international excellence. The studies will be based on the literature that supports the understanding of the subject and articulated to the data collection and complementary empirical procedures aiming to jointly think of answers to the educational challenges that the present and the future present us with.

Through academic cooperation with these countries, there is an attempt to contemplate the circulation and strengthening of dialogue with different contexts between professors and doctoral students, the construction of a research network that enhances the possibilities of producing scientific knowledge and strengthen existing partnerships, as well as joint publications of research results.

The relevance of the theme is echoed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, a fundamental milestone in the recognition and consolidation of education as a fundamental social right in human formation, requiring the State to elaborate and implement public policies.
